We are marketing people and don't have a clue about what we need or should have. Can you help us?
This is typical of some of our prospective customers' phone calls. It's not a problem, and we are happy to give you our thoughts and ideas and help you architect a plan.
What browsers should we support?
This is a very good question and there are several items to consider. Generally you should target the browser that your target market tends to use. Once you have defined your target market you need to find out the browser market share and the trend. For example if your target market is not an avid computer user then you might consider the Windows Operating System and the IE browser.
Do I want a toolbar but need a BHO, or vice versa?
Now that's an odd statement isn't it? We often get a telephone call from someone who believes they want and need a toolbar and instead are really referring to and/or needing a BHO, or vice versa. We will gladly talk with you about your needs and give you some direction and recommendations based on our experience.
Okay, so I'm getting a toolbar developed. What about the buttons? Who does the artwork?
Good questions and one that we ask right away. Either you can do it, or we can take care of it for you. While we do not have graphic artists in house, we have several graphic artists with whom we work that specialize in toolbar buttons and do many of our icons; so this is not a problem. We have actually put together an informal graphics document if that is the case, which we are happy to pass on at the beginning of development for you. This document will explain exactly what that graphics person will need to know. It is quitre and art doing very small icons for buttons, you wouldn't perhaps think so, but believe us, it is!. So, we've got you covered one way or the other.
How do I put together a specifications or requirements document? Can you help?
We often help our customers put together a (requirements)specifications document and have put together a document (located on our website) listing some of the things that we will need to know. Once we have these basic questions answered, we can further discuss your requirements and put together a solid proposal for you and pass along a very accurate fixed price quote for your project. This requirements (specifications) document does not need to be fancy! Below is a list of items to consider putting in your document.
Some browser extension or Outlook add-ins have artwork requirements. When is the artwork going to be available? Do you want us to find an artist for you?
Is there going to be a client-server interface? Is there is going to be a SOAP, JSON or custom HTTP interface that the plug-in will have to query? If so is it documented?
Explain how you foresee the installation of your product. Is silent install needed to interface with your web site? What is your target platform?
Do you want your application code signed? It is highly recommended that you code sign your binary components.
Is your application going to be branded? Do you want a multilingual application? Explain all facets for each intended target environment.
Explain all logic that will be associated with the application.
How do you foresee testing? We test all applications on all versions of the browser or Outlook. But we are not a quality control house and it is expected that you will do a certain amount of testing on your product to insure all requirements have been met as well.
Explain the timeframe of the project. When is the project supposed to be in production? When are expected milestones expected to be completed?
Do we need a code signing certificate?
It is highly recommended that you code sign all binaries. When you sign your application you are putting your name on it and it is considered a trusted application.
What else do I need to know?
When it comes to development, that's what we are here for! As we begin working with you we will keep you abreast of all development as it progresses. At times, we will pass on some mini-installs, so you can see how things are shaping up. By doing this, we have found that problems can be anticipated and solved early in the development process. We've got you covered and are always all on the same page with development!
What if I find a bug after we're all done?
We do free bug fixes for a period of sixty days. After this period, we are generally pretty–easy going as far as bug fixing. If it's a minor bug, no problem, no charge. However, if it is going to take us more than an hour, we'll discuss it with you first, and then charge you our hourly rate. We stand behind our development - it is as simple as that. We are known for our prompt response to you and support you all the way.
What about multi-platform development consideration?
If you are looking to have multi-platforms developed, we suggest you begin with the major market share, which, at this time, is Internet Explorer; then, upon the IE completion, look to move into the next highest market share platform for development, and so forth. We do this type of development so often that we always have the statistics available and are happy to discuss this with you.
How long have you been in business?
GigaSoft Development®, Inc. has been in business since 2001. We happen to be the first browser plug-in company in the business and the most experienced.
How much IT or application development experience do you possess?
We possess well over the twenty-five year mark of development expertise.
How much will your application cost?
Actually, much less than one would think! We well understand the budgets and needs of a business - especially a small business. After we discuss your desires and development needs, we come up with a game plan. This is derived through a specifications(requirements) document. This document will undoubtedly engage us in some questions and give us some answers. However, it is due to this document that we can then put together a solid proposal for you which includes a time frame and fixed price quotation.
Can you deliver what you boast and tell us?
You bet we can! See our testimonial page, give us a telephone call, or, if you wish, we can put you in contact with some of our clients. References are always available upon your request.
What kind of support can we expect from you?
Even when we've completed your project, you can always count on our excellent support; this is something we are always complimented on. In fact, whether you are a client or not, if you contact us, we will respond promptly to your queries, emails, and telephone calls. We always answer telephone calls directly, and if we are on the telephone and need to leave a message you can be sure of a return telephone call. This is not a problem and rather what we, too, would expect if it were reverse!
Do you offer maintenance and support after the job is done?
Many clients opt to have all their maintenance done by us. We can work out a flexible agreement by the hour, by the month, or on an as-needed basis.
How long will your development take?
Simply put, this all depends upon your needs and drop-dead date. A development project can take anywhere from a couple days, to weeks, or, in some cases, months. Obviously, once we have your requirements (specifications) document in hand and begin conversing on the look and feel you desire for your project, we can then give you a proposal, which will incorporate the time-frame for your project. This allows for a concise and prompt process and puts us all on the same page. While the development is progressing, we will converse and at times send you mini-installs so that problems can be anticipated and solved before your application is complete. We're in business to accommodate your schedule as well as your possible drop-dead dates.
What is your telephone number, where are you located, and what time zone are you in?
Our telephone number is: 847.231.GIGA (4442), and we are located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois (actually about 49 miles from the city). We can be reached by telephone (Central Standard Time) or email.
We are usually here six days a week. Monday - Friday: 8:00 A.M. CST through at least 6:00 P.M. CST. Most Saturdays: 9:30 A.M. CST through 2:00p.m.CST. Be assured if you leave us a telephone message, it will be promptly returned; again, something we are known for!
Do I have to pay all at once?
No, you do not. We require a percentage paid upfront and two additional payments based on milestones and/or alpha and beta deliveries. We explain all this to you in the proposal that we put together for you.
What is your guarantee?
We guarantee that you will receive your development project and a solution for it on time and with no risk.
If you would like to discuss your proposed project, feel free to give us a call or send us an email. If you would like us to sign an NDA, this is not a problem whatsoever. After we have a better understanding of what you are looking to do and some details from you we can usually pass on a fairly accurate price quotation and timeline for your proposed project. Thereafter, we will be happy to pass on a fixed cost proposal for you.
If you would like a price quotation please fill out our browser quote request form, this will then enable us to get a better idea of what you are looking to do and equally allow us to pass on a fairly accurate price quotation here and now. If you would like to ask some questions and/or get our further insight on your project endeavor feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you and to the opportunity of earning your business.
