IE JavaScript Interfaces

Over the years it has become vital for many companies to interface with an IE plug-in. To do so requires a good scheme.

What types of applications are we referring to?

Some customers like to insert JavaScript into a web page and execute it. Others may want us to call a specific JavaScript method with a data value. Soma may want us to source an interface that will allow the web page to call functionality within the plug-in; the possibilities are endless.

There are many reasons for a JavaScript interface but the most important is linking the web server to the client's browsing experience (GUI).

One example could be that the plug-in sources an interface that changes a toolbar buttons color. Let us say a user is shopping for cars and they browse a site where a unique car is available. The web application wants to inform the user, through the GUI, that the unique car is available through the site. The web application calls a sourced function called: item found, which will change the toolbar button image. That is just a small example of the infinite types of items that a JavaScript interface could be used for.
