Command Bars

The Outlook Command Bar is rapidly becoming extinct with the new versions of Outlook. With the newer versions of Outlook, they tend to be buried in the GUI. No longer are they seen as a popular way to go.

However, with older versions of Outlook, such as Outlook 2003 - that is the only way to fly! Many of our clients are in a corporate environment and many still are utilizing Windows XP and Office 2003, thus we still have to support the Command Bar.

What is a Command Bar?

A command bar is very similar to a browser toolbar but unlike the common controls they are limited in some facets. A command bar can be composed of buttons, pop-up menus and, other controls such as a drop-down.

The Command Bar can also be used for later versions if the user does not want to implement special controls for the ribbon, which tends to inflate development. For the typical development most companies want command bar implementation for Outlook 2003 and ribbon implementation for Outlook 2007 and above.

Again we boast tremendous experience with every version of Outlook and we know all of the pitfalls!
